Paddling Northwest Ontario's
Lake & River Systems

Northwest Ontario's Sunset Country boasts the world's best wilderness canoeing. Three provincial parks, Quetico, Woodland Caribou, and Wabakimi, provide hundreds of interconnected waterways and natural wildlife reserves.

Located near Atikokan in the Rainy River region Quetico Park features over 3,000 miles of waterways lined with giant red and white pines. In Quetico Park you can have it all - the natural experience combined with modern amenities. As a full-service provincial park, it also offers complete campground facilities.

Woodland Caribou Provincial Park, located between Red Lake and the Manitoba border, is home to one of the largest herds of woodland caribou. As Ontario's fifth largest provincial park, it also offers over 1600 km of little traveled canoe routes.

Wabakimi is Ontario's newest and largest park. At 2.5 million acres, this haven for woodland is larger than the state of Connecticut. Outfitters can help you plan your trip to Wabakimi, which is accessible by boat or float-plane.

Follow the Routes Carved by the Fur Trade

Turtle River-White Otter Provincial Waterway Park provides amazing sight seeing. Tour operators and outfitters can help you discover migratory birds feeding at the wild rice bays, native pictographs, lining the cliff shores, and thundering Horse Falls.

Fantastic canoeing, boating, and camping can also be found along the Historic Boundary Waterway, stretching from Atikokan to Minaki. You're almost sure to spot a beaver slipping into the water and you may catch sight of deer, moose, otter, and timber wolves.

And of course, don't forget bring your camera and lots of film. You'll have steady opportunities to photograph wildlife and scenery. These are shots and memories that you know you'll keep forever.
